The thought of a child, here in the United States where I'm from, or ANYWHERE in the world, going hungry, being denied medical care, not getting a proper education...saddens me to the point where there are NO words to describe the depths of it. Here, although things may seem tough, and in some cases they are, we still do not realize how blessed we are to have food, shelter, and most importantly...children whose little bellies have food in them. Children who awaken on Christmas morning and get presents. Children who have schools, no matter how much we may gripe about them, they HAVE schools. Children who have doctors, no matter how much we complain about the cost of care, of insurance...our children HAVE the opportunity to get the HELP they need in this great country- the USA.
But, so often, I feel helpless. I see the ads on TV- the ones that are so painful to watch I often turn my head away. I can't stand to see the pain. But, denial won't help. You know the ads I mean. The ones that show children with swollen bellies and eyes that cry out, but so often the child is so dehydrated a single tear is all that can fall down his or her precious face. That single tear shouldn't be there at all. That single tear speaks more than words ever could "I'm hungry....I'm tired...I don't feel good." They are so young and innocent. They don't KNOW there is a better way; a better life. The only world they know is one of disease, hunger, despair, seeing their mothers cry, watching other babies being buried far too soon. Why? While children far away, and not so far away, are dying. They are dying because they are hungry. Love will do many things, and is the most beautiful thing in the world. Please, take a piece of that LOVE in your heart and share it with one who needs it more than you know. More than I could ever imagine.
