God’s Rainbow of Promises

Welcome to God's Rainbow of Promises!

The rainbow represents the end of Judgment, as seen by Noah after the Flood. Each color of the rainbow represents a different part of the work of the Lord Jesus Christ in providing the free gift of Salvation for mankind.

Home Schooling Vs. Public Schools!
My Personal Journey.
Written by: Marybeth Foster

I have been asked many times over the last year why I decided to home school my youngest two children.

I chuckle each time people start asking questions regarding my decisions. When they discover I am home schooling I usually get a sideways glance and then a look of "Did you just land on this planet?"

The next thing I get is, "Well they say children who are home schooled don't have good social skills." That's when I chuckle, and explain, I have five kids. There are plenty of social activities going on in my house on a daily basis, probably more than at school.

Also, my children go to the playground, the beach and many other places, where they always find kids who want to play with them.

My decisions to home school were based on many factors:

1. Violence in schools, (I have three older children, who went to a small town school, where there were bomb threats almost weekly.)

2. The illnesses in the schools. (My youngest two, the first year in Taunton public school systems, came home sick two weeks after starting, and remained sick every two weeks after that, Until I pulled them out of school for home schooling).

3. Teachers and faculty that seem to feel because they have dealt with children for 20 years, they know my child better than I do.

4. Bully's. This is a category all of its own.

In one of the schools my children went to, we had a problem with my eldest son and a bully. We had to practically threaten the principal to get anything done. Once we did that, the bully actually confessed to terrorizing my son for the whole school year.

The shear numbers of children, the ridiculous tests, the labeling, and the basic nosiness of the school systems combined with how they kept trying to tell me how to raise my children also led to my home schooling decision. Public schools sent home so much homework, there was no way to be able to plan anything with the kids after school.

With some of their homework, it was like I was supposed to teach what my child should have been taught in the school that day.

Home schooling has so many benefits.

I don't have to deal with teachers, whom may have personality conflicts with my child or me.

My children have only been sick twice this whole school year with a simple cold. NO flu.

My second youngest, whom I was told through the public school system he would need extra reading classes, is now reading above his grade level.

No threats of bombs, bullies, or people who feel they are better than me, telling me what I need to do.

There is no homework, and no having to rush home to catch the bus.

When we go out it's a field trip, and I tie in the whole thing with their class work. Most of all, I have had the joy of watching them discover things with me. We talk about every aspect of a subject.

When I took my kids out of school, it was the end of the year. I had them for 35 days. The school year had almost 3 months left.

I wrote my report, and sent it into the school along with all the tests I had given them, and the class work. They ended school early and were promoted early.

There are many things to consider nowadays. When my eldest children entered school, there had been no school shootings, not bomb threats. Those things were not even remotely thought of.

My eldest is 20 and I have a 19 year in college. Along with a 16 year old who will be graduating next year from public school.

All my children are smart. I am proud of every one of them. But, in this day and age, with all the violence and my youngest two coming home telling me the new games on the school yard are "stomp their feet" or "lets choke him." I long for the days of tag and chase.

It is too violent and scary in the public school systems of today. I decided to home school for safety, health and a better education for my children.

Some say there isn't enough time to educate at home. That's all bunk, just like the inability to learn to socialize is all bunk.

If you are really worried about it, send them to the YMCA or any local youth group. This country was founded on people teaching at home long before schools were even considered. We were wide spread and the nearest neighbor was 50 miles away. They managed to socialize then and I can do that with my kids now.

If your child is having panic attacks or coming home from school crying daily, do you really think that kind of socializing is that great for them???

I based my decision on all these factors and more. There are too many to list.

Until parents start taking their rights back, their children will never be theirs to raise.

The schools were set up to teach not preach, and it seems all they spend their time doing nowadays, is preach, to and about children they know nothing about.

If you can I would suggest you find the time to protect your children and teach them at home, where you know there are no bullies, drugs, or bombs and guns.
